BRIDGE LESSONS

Tired of TV? Why not learn a social and interesting card game?
Bridge stimulates you and allows you to spend the evening whether at home or at a club with other people who love the game.
A social game and  a mental challenge, that’s bridge. A game for all ages, a game you can play whether you are 15, 25, 50 or 80.  A game where every deal is so different.  It’s so good for you.
A part two course is offered in term 4 for those who are keen to continue and develop more understanding and ability.  Enrol before this course ends and receive a $20 discount on the price.

GOOGLE DOCUMENT

Learn about Google products from G-mail and the Google Drive through to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Find out how these cloud-based applications can change the way you use the internet. This course is aimed at beginners.

SKILLS TO ANALYSE AND INTERPRET ACCOUNT

Baffled by accounting statements? Need to understand your investments? This course is for you. Whether you are a business owner, manager, employee or investor, confidence in analyzing and interpreting accounting statements is an essential skill. As accounting statements are instruments to track financial position and performance, an understanding of accounting concepts, ratios and figures can help you make decisions to "suss" out risks, and understand opportunities hidden in the figures for greater rewards. A listed company annual report will be used throughout the course for you to practice those newly acquired skills. Prior accounting knowledge is not a prerequisite.

STRATEGIES TO GROW YOUR WEALTH

Wondering how your friends multiply their wealth? It is essential that you seek first to understand concepts like: 'Compounding', 'Discounting', 'Present Value' and 'Future Value'. Attempt to calculate these too. You will be able to better read and understand brochures associated with savings, loans and investment facilities. This course aspires to kick-start your Grow-Your-Wealth journey by giving you the tools and steps to establish your personal financial goals. Prior accounting knowledge is not a prerequisite

PHOTOSHOP - 1 DAY WORKSHOP

This is a one day introduction course. Concepts such as digital painting are explained, swatches, brushes, setting up document for printing, import of images and photographs, collage, correcting skin tone and more. This course will help you to understand digital imagery and extend your creativity.

ASIAN COOKING

Introducing you to a variety of different cuisines from South East Asia, Korean, Japan and Hong Kong.

Practical assistance & recipes will be provided by the two tutors. Participants provide their own ingredients.

CHRISTMAS BAKING TRADITIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Learn to bake cookies, cakes and desserts inspired by the traditions of regions around the world including Central Europe, Scandinavia, Mediterranean, East Europe and South America, to name but a few.

Mixing methods and baking terminology will be covered off for students that are new to baking.

Ingredient Fee: $15 per session payable to tutor each week.

GEMS OF INDIAN KITCHEN - LENTILS

Eat your Daal and you'll get strong! This is our go to source of protein. In India we have daal with every meal in addition to green vegetables. There are enough lentils and legumes that you never have to repeat a single one through the week!

Ingredient fee $50.

  • Sambar and Rice
  • Sprouted Mung bean salad

ITALIAN CAKES, BISCUITS, SWEET TARTS AND DESSERTS

Bake a selection of the classic recipes and some of the more modern cakes born in the kitchens of Italy. Recipes are packed with the goodness of nuts and fruit and some cakes use olive oil in place of butter with delicious results. Mixing methods and baking terminology will be covered off for students that are new to baking.

Ingredient Fee: $25 per session payable to tutor on the day.

JAPANESE HOME COOKING

Japanese food is famous for its unique flavour and healthiness. Though it is true that some remarkable dishes require years of training, home cooking is encouraged and delicious dishes can be served up competently by those eager to learn how.

Enjoy the touch of the essence of Japanese cooking together. You may find Japanese cooking is more affordable and easier than you think!

$30 ingredients fees payable to tutor on first night.

MALAYSIAN COOKING

A practical Malaysian cuisine class introducing you to the varieties of delicious and spicy dishes such as fried rice noodles (Chow Kuey Teow), coconut rice (Nasi Lemak), rendang...

Practical assistance and recipes will be provided by tutors. Participants provide their own ingredients.

NYONYA COOKING - AN INTRODUCTION

This demonstration cooking course brings you a mixed blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian from Singapore and Malaysia.  Eg ,Nyonya Curry, Melaka Laksa.

SIMPLE COOKING FOR BEGINNERS AND FLATTERS

This is a basic course in cooking covering equipment required, buying ingredients, menu planning, cooking and preparation techniques.

A list of ingredients to bring with you on the first night will be given to you prior to the first session.

SPICE IT UP - INDIAN SPICE PRIMER

India’s spices really make up India’s character; colourful, aromatic, mystical and magical.
Come and learn how to play with Indian spices.

Don’t be daunted by the plethora of spices. Engage with your five senses on this culinary journey with me. Learn about the health benefits of all the essential Indian spices and how to use them dexterously.

THAI CUISINE

Term 3 - Advanced          (W6333) Wednesday Aug 03 7-9 pm 4 weeks

This is for those who are serious about gaining more experience and knowledge of this cuisine even more recipes added.

Note: For all the above courses recipes can be accommodated to suit individual taste and the recipes will be different.

VEGETABLE MAINS WITH MEDITERRANEAN FLAIR

A modern take on popular meatless dishes from Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. Recipe inspiration for the course comes from the traditional cuisines of the Mediterranean where seasonal vegetables, pulses, nuts and cheeses are combined with herbs and aromatic spices to create delicious family meals and easy to prepare dishes for entertaining.

Note: Eggs and dairy products will be used in some of the recipes.

Ingredient Fee: $15 per session payable to tutor each week.

WORKING WITH FILO PASTRY

Classic and contemporary recipes using ready made filo pastry.
Take the mystery out of working with this wonderfully light pastry option. Learn the tricks of handling the pastry on the bench and creating a selection of traditional dishes from the cuisines of Greece and Turkey where this pastry is very much a part of their culture. We will also explore ways of using filo in less traditional dishes with more of a local feel.

Recipes will include family meals, finger food and party fare incorporating both savoury and sweet applications.

Ingredient Fee: $15 per session payable to tutor each week.

YOGA OF COOKING - AYURVEDIC COOKING CLASS

My mission is to transform our connection with cooking and eating. Through this class we will tap into the timeless practice of Ayurveda  - the “Science of Life” and improve our relationship with our food and diet. Ayurveda and yoga both share a common belief about health and wellness through the use of plant based diet.
 
This is the Yoga of Cooking. We will get off the mat and into the kitchen! These classes will bring knowledge of health and weight loss.  Take away the stress and anxiety related to counting calories.  Ingredient fee $50.

MEDITATION AND MINDFULNESS COURSE

Meditation and mindfulness are both ways to find inner peace and to make the most of every moment.  They help you to stay centred and balanced, to improve your focus and feel more ‘in charge’ of yourself.  Often daily stresses can lead to rushing, making poor decisions, emotions coming up and ill health. 

This course will give you the tools to deal in a much better way with these things, so helping you forward in your life.  Research has shown that meditation improves immunity, sleep, memory, creativity, concentration and learning ability.  Harvard University found that it was related to anti ageing and healthy ageing – improving weight management, blood pressure, cardiac health and cognitive function.

In this course you learn Pure Meditation Foundation and mindfulness tools, it includes a book (paid for separately $25), handouts and ongoing support.  Along with relaxation techniques and talk on meditation and mindfulness, to help deepen your understanding.  Held over four weeks for two hours.

Taught by Angela Main an accredited teacher with the Self Realization Meditation Healing Centres worldwide, member of SRMHC Associates NZ and the NZ Natural Health Practitioners Charter.

$24 will be payable to tutor on first night for course book.

WRITING YOUR MEMOIRS

We all have a story to tell. Writing your life story is an enjoyable and therapeutic process as you take time to reflect on your life’s journey.

Life Stories tutor Maria de Jong is offering a memoir writing course in a small group setting at Onehunga High School. The course will inspire, encourage and support you through the process of writing your life story or family history. Classes are designed for those new to writing and will include exercises.

Maria has written seven books, including the award-winning Fred Graham Creator of Forms Te Tohunga Auaha.  Max 10-12 students.
