WOODWORK - BEGINNERS TO INTERMEDIATE

A hands-on practical class.  Work on your own project at your own pace under Paul’s guidance.  All equipment is supplied, however, bring your own materials.  No recycled timer can be used as this may damage school equipment.  Students who have not previously attended this class are required to start a week early for an introduction night to learn about the equipment and to discuss their projects with the tutor.  Class numbers limited.  First night is an introduction to equipment, discussion of project and materials

You will have loads of fun as well as keeping fit in this popular
class.  Beginners welcome but we do advise that you have a reasonable standard of fitness to avoid the risk of injury.  Please wear non-marking shoes.

This course is suitable for new beginners and for those with some belly dance experience. Improve co-ordination, strength & stability, flexibility & muscle tone while learning something new and fun! A truly holistic dance form: good for body, soul & spirit! A great way to de-stress! Be prepared to be changed into a new and confident you! Classes consist of a warm-up/cool down, technique, combinations and learning inspiring choreographies - all to beautiful music. Safe dancing technique and correct posture are being taught as part of each lesson. Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing. Bare feet, socks or light ballet flats. Optional: bring a scarf to tie around your hips to accentuate hip movement. Suitable for any age, shape, size, background, fitness level.

AEROBIC/LATIN DANCE FITNESS

Fabulous new class on offer that is a fun and energetic fitness experience expressed through Latin type dance moves combined with standard aerobic, step moves.  Latin fitness is transforming a standard cardio work-out into a mix of cardio and dance. No pressure, learn at your own pace – but great fun guaranteed.  Come and join us!!  You will be amazed at the results and the ease of the transformation – the old you to the new you!  Please wear loose and comfortable clothing and soft soled shoes.

DATABASE DEVELOPER (SQL DEVELOPER)

One step further to promote your career, business and education. A database is an organised collection of data. Database designers typically organise the data to model aspects of reality in a way that supports processes requiring information. Database administrators use specialised software to store and organise data. Basic computer skill is required. Please bring your own laptop to class.

BASIC CAR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

A practical class for the home mechanic. Learn how to perform jobs such as a grease and oil change, maintaining and tuning of the engine, changing brake pads and engine troubleshooting. Class numbers limited. Bring your own car (or someone else's) to work on.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT CLASS FOR NON ATHLETES

(a mixture of calisthenics, pilates, primal exercises, yoga, and Qi Gong, plus some eye yoga as taught by Meir Schneider). Great for winding down, and relaxation, but also strengthening and body balancing. Suitable for all age groups, with less emphasis on intense stretching than yoga. This class is designed for couch potatoes, the athletically challenged, and people stuck behind desks all day using computers. It will wake up muscles cramped from sitting too long, give relief to modern-life induced stiff hips, lower backs, stiff ankles and necks, and sore computer eyes! More mindful and holistic than typical gym classes, with an emphasis on functional exercises like learning to squat properly; pick up objects off the floor without stressing the back; firing up the glutes and hamstrings, that is, your posterior chain; learning how to sit in chairs without stressing the spine, etc. Exercise mats and blanket all that’s needed.

SMALL ENGINE REPAIRS

Learn how to repair small engines including outboard motors, lawn mowers and motorbikes. Please bring a small engine to be repaired. Class will be practical. Note: In this class you can just focus on the engine(s) which most interest you. Class numbers limited.

PYTHON (PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE)

Let’s begin a new chapter of learning with most in-demand programming languages. A programming language is a formal language which comprises a set of instructions used to produce various kinds of output. Programming languages are used to create programs that implement specific algorithms. Basic computer skill is required.

DUTCH FOR BEGINNERS

This is an introductory level course, designed for students with little to no knowledge of the Dutch (or Flemish) language. This is a first step for beginners in a safe and welcoming environment and suitable for those who wish to continue with language learning in the future.

During this course, we will cover:

  • pronunciation, with markers on Dutch spoken in the Netherlands and Belgium (Flemish)
  • greetings and common expressions
  • cardinal numbers, colours and general vocabulary
  • calendar (days of the week, months, time of day) and being able to tell the date
  • likes and dislikes, hobbies and pastimes
  • basic presentations of oneself (name, age, address, nationality, profession)
  • basic grammar concepts, such as: articles, use of formality, word order in sentences
  • verbs and conjugations in the present tense

... ending each week with a song that ties in what has been taught, enhances pronunciation and understanding, all the while offering some new vocabulary in a fun way!

On completion of these seven weeks, you will be able to read and write Dutch with ease, be able to understand the basics, remember some essential vocabulary, grasp some simple grammar and have a general idea of the Dutch language and culture.

You will learn how to compare insurance, investments and KiwiSaver products, search the best and more. You will find the principles taught are easy to follow and there will be an opportunity to ask questions about financial topics you care about. Dylan is fully accredited in both Australia and New Zealand as an Authorised Financial Adviser.

TIVAEVAE/TIVAIVAI Tivaevae (also spelled “tivaivai) means to stitch or sew and in essence, it’s the art of making magnificent patchwork bed covers. Islanders also apply similar skills to producing stunning cushion covers. Cook Islands women often describe the work as “something from the heart”. “It is a pieced or appliquéd, sometimes heavily embroidered unquilted coverlet, the colourful post-missionary substitute for the tapa cloth of ancient times. Learn the art of Cook Island Tivaivai. We are completing the front cushion part only. Cost of materials: $20.00 payable to the tutor on the first night.

OIL PAINTING

Are you wanting to learn a fun and productive new hobby? Oil Painting for Beginners will teach you all you need to know about oil painting to get your house looking like an art gallery.

The level of this class is suited to absolute beginners and intermediate artists. The tutor will provide step-by-step instructions on how to create your own masterpiece.

After 8 weeks you will produce at least 2 completed landscape or still life paintings ready to hang up on your wall.

Materials list to be sent out prior to the class. No creative skill or prior painting experience necessary.

MEDITATION AND MINDFULNESS COURSE

Meditation and mindfulness are both ways to find inner peace and to make the most of every moment.  They help you to stay centred and balanced, to improve your focus and feel more ‘in charge’ of yourself.  Often daily stresses can lead to rushing, making poor decisions, emotions coming up and ill health. 

This course will give you the tools to deal in a much better way with these things, so helping you forward in your life.  Research has shown that meditation improves immunity, sleep, memory, creativity, concentration and learning ability.  Harvard University found that it was related to anti ageing and healthy ageing – improving weight management, blood pressure, cardiac health and cognitive function.

In this course you learn Pure Meditation Foundation and mindfulness tools, it includes a book (paid for separately $25), handouts and ongoing support.  Along with relaxation techniques and talk on meditation and mindfulness, to help deepen your understanding.  Held over four weeks for two hours.

Taught by Angela Main an accredited teacher with the Self Realization Meditation Healing Centres worldwide, member of SRMHC Associates NZ and the NZ Natural Health Practitioners Charter.

$24 will be payable to tutor on first night for course book.
